Stanbic IBTC Bank, a leading financial services group in Nigeria and a subsidiary of the Standard Bank Group, is seeking a dynamic and experienced Team Lead, Sustainability to drive our commitment to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) initiatives. This role is integral to our strategic vision, ensuring sustainable business practices are embedded across our operations and contribute to long-term value creation for our stakeholders and the Nigerian economy.

Job Overview

The Team Lead, Sustainability will spearhead the development, implementation, and oversight of Stanbic IBTC Bank’s sustainability strategy. This individual will lead a dedicated team, fostering innovation and collaboration to advance our ESG performance and reporting. The role requires a deep understanding of sustainability principles, regulatory frameworks, and best practices within the financial sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute Stanbic IBTC’s comprehensive sustainability strategy aligned with global ESG standards and local context.
  • Lead and mentor a team of sustainability professionals, fostering a high-performance culture.
  • Oversee the collection, analysis, and reporting of ESG data across the bank’s operations.
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including regulators, investors, and community partners, on sustainability matters.
  • Drive initiatives related to climate risk management, social impact, and ethical governance.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of sustainability programs and identify areas for improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant environmental and social regulations and reporting frameworks.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Business Administration, or a related field. A Master’s degree is a plus.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive experience in sustainability, ESG, or corporate social responsibility, with at least 2 years in a leadership capacity.
  • Proven track record in developing and implementing successful sustainability strategies.
  • Strong understanding of ESG frameworks (e.g., GRI, SASB, TCFD) and sustainable finance principles.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and reporting skills.
  • Exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience within the financial services sector in Nigeria is highly desirable.
