Job Overview

IITA is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Research Associate to join our innovative team. This remote position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to impactful research projects that are at the forefront of tropical agricultural advancement. As a Senior Research Associate, you will play a pivotal role in designing, executing, and disseminating research that addresses critical development needs. You will collaborate with a diverse team of scientists and stakeholders, contributing to IITA’s overarching goal of transforming African agriculture.

Key Responsibilities

* Lead the design and implementation of complex research projects in assigned thematic areas, ensuring scientific rigor and alignment with IITA’s strategic objectives.
* Conduct comprehensive data collection, analysis, and interpretation, employing advanced statistical methods and software.
* Develop and manage research budgets, ensuring efficient resource allocation and timely project completion.
* Mentor and guide junior researchers and research assistants, fostering their professional development and contributing to a collaborative research environment.
* Prepare high-quality scientific manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals and present research findings at international conferences and workshops.
* Contribute to the development of research proposals and secure funding from national and international sources.
* Engage with stakeholders, including farmers, policymakers, and other research institutions, to ensure research relevance and facilitate the uptake of innovations.
* Stay abreast of the latest scientific advancements and emerging trends in tropical agriculture, identifying opportunities for innovation and adaptation.

Requirements

* A Ph.D. in a relevant agricultural science discipline such as Agronomy, Plant Breeding, Crop Protection, Soil Science, Agricultural Economics, or a closely related field.
* A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible research experience in tropical agriculture, with a demonstrated track record of independent research and project management.
* Proven ability to design, conduct, and analyze research experiments, with strong quantitative and qualitative data analysis skills.
* Excellent scientific writing and communication skills, evidenced by publications in reputable scientific journals.
* Demonstrated experience in proposal writing and fundraising from diverse funding sources.
* Proficiency in statistical software packages (e.g., R, SAS, SPSS) and data management systems.
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote team environment, with strong organizational and time management skills.
