The Africa Finance Corporation (AFC) is a pan-African multilateral development financial institution established in 2007 to address Africa’s infrastructure gaps. Headquartered in Lagos, Nigeria, AFC provides debt and equity financing, project development, and technical and financial advisory services across the continent.

Internship Overview

The AFC internship places candidates at the heart of the organization’s investment, syndications, advisory, and portfolio management activities. Interns will gain exposure to multiple business units and play an active role in investment origination, analysis, and execution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct investment and financial analysis, including financial modeling and scenario testing
  • Prepare investment approval documents, legal, financial, commercial, and social due diligence reports
  • Perform market and industry research to support strategic business decisions
  • Assist in business planning, performance tracking, and reporting
  • Develop pitch books, presentations, and marketing materials for clients
  • Support cross-divisional business units such as Energy, Heavy Industries, Telecommunications, Metals & Mining, Transport Infrastructure, Financial Advisory, Syndications, and AFC Capital
  • Manage administrative tasks including document management, procurement requests, invoice settlement, and scheduling
  • Conduct KYC and due diligence for prospective clients, investors, and projects
  • Assist in preparing transaction documents such as engagement letters, proposals, term sheets, and investment memos

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Strong first degree in Engineering, Economics, Finance, or related fields
  • Minimum of 3 years professional experience, preferably in investment banking, financial advisory, or infrastructure projects
  • Proficiency in financial modeling and Microsoft Excel; ability to create PowerPoint presentations for client pitches
  • Strong quantitative analysis, problem-solving, and research skills
  • Excellent communication and business writing skills
  • Knowledge of African investment markets and infrastructure sectors
  • Fluency in English; additional languages (French, Portuguese, Spanish, or Arabic) are an advantage
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and able to work under pressure in a dynamic environment
