INTERSOS is seeking a dedicated and experienced Pharmacy Manager to oversee pharmaceutical operations within its humanitarian programs in Italy. As an independent, non-profit organization, INTERSOS is committed to providing essential assistance and dignity to individuals facing severe crises in the world’s most impoverished regions. This role is crucial for ensuring the effective and ethical management of medical supplies, supporting our mission to deliver life-saving aid.

Job Overview

The Pharmacy Manager will be responsible for the strategic and operational management of the pharmacy department, ensuring the efficient procurement, storage, distribution, and rational use of medicines and medical supplies across INTERSOS projects in Italy. This position requires a deep understanding of pharmaceutical best practices within a humanitarian context.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement pharmaceutical policies and procedures aligned with INTERSOS guidelines and international standards.
  • Manage inventory, including forecasting needs, ordering, receiving, and stock control to prevent shortages and wastage.
  • Ensure proper storage and handling of pharmaceuticals, maintaining cold chain integrity where applicable.
  • Oversee the distribution of medicines to project sites and beneficiaries, ensuring accurate record-keeping.
  • Monitor drug consumption patterns and promote rational drug use among healthcare staff.
  • Train and supervise pharmacy staff and other relevant personnel on pharmaceutical management.
  • Liaise with local health authorities and suppliers to ensure compliance and efficient procurement.
  • Contribute to project proposals and reports related to pharmaceutical activities.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Pharmacy or a related field.
  • Registered Pharmacist with a valid license to practice in Italy.
  • Proven experience in pharmacy management, preferably within the humanitarian sector or in a resource-limited setting.
  • Strong knowledge of pharmaceutical logistics, inventory management, and pharmacovigilance.
  • Familiarity with international pharmaceutical guidelines and best practices.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in relevant software for inventory management.
  • Fluency in Italian and good working knowledge of English.
