One Acre Fund is seeking a dedicated Agronomy Researcher to join our team in Kenya. As a leading nonprofit dedicated to empowering smallholder farmers, we provide essential agricultural training and financing to combat hunger and poverty across East Africa. This role is critical to our mission, focusing on improving crop yields and farmer livelihoods through robust agronomic research and practical application.

Job Overview

The Agronomy Researcher will play a vital role in developing and implementing evidence-based agricultural strategies. This position involves conducting field trials, analyzing data, and translating research findings into actionable recommendations for our farmer network. You will contribute directly to the effectiveness of our programs by enhancing crop management practices and fostering sustainable farming techniques.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and execute field trials to evaluate new crop varieties, fertilizers, and farming techniques.
  • Collect and meticulously analyze agronomic data, drawing actionable insights.
  • Develop and deliver training materials and best practices for field staff and farmers.
  • Stay abreast of emerging agricultural research and innovations relevant to smallholder farming.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate research findings into program design.
  • Maintain accurate records and document research methodologies and outcomes.
  • Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Agronomy, Agriculture, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in agricultural research, including experimental design and data analysis.
  • Strong understanding of crop physiology, soil science, and sustainable farming practices.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a rural setting.
  • Proficiency in data management software is desirable.
