Job Overview
The HSE Officer will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and monitoring health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures across Whassan Nigeria Limited’s operations. This role is crucial in ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation and industry best practices, fostering a robust safety culture, and minimizing risks to personnel and the environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement comprehensive HSE policies and procedures aligned with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct regular site inspections and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and implement corrective actions.
- Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near misses, documenting findings and recommending preventive measures.
- Deliver HSE training programs to employees and contractors, promoting awareness and competency.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with environmental regulations, including waste management and emissions control.
- Maintain accurate HSE records and prepare regular reports for management.
- Liaise with regulatory bodies and clients on HSE matters.
- Champion a proactive safety culture throughout the organization.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a similar HSE role, preferably within the Oil & Gas sector.
- In-depth knowledge of Nigerian HSE regulations and international safety standards (e.g., OHSAS 18001/ISO 45001, ISO 14001).
- Proven experience in risk assessment, incident investigation, and emergency response planning.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Professional certifications (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH) are a significant advantage.
