Child Protection Reintegration & CP transition International Consultant at UNICEF | Nigeria

UNICEF Nigeria is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Child Protection Reintegration & CP Transition International Consultant to contribute to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals. This vital role will support UNICEF’s mandate to advocate for children’s rights, ensure their basic needs are met, and expand opportunities for them to reach their full potential. The Nigeria country programme is dedicated to accelerating the realization of rights for all children and women, focusing on survival, development, protection, and participation, while actively promoting efforts to reduce infant, child, and maternal mortality and expand access to essential services.

Job Overview

The International Consultant will provide technical expertise and strategic guidance to UNICEF Nigeria’s Child Protection Section, with a particular focus on child reintegration programs and the transition of children from alternative care to family- or community-based care. This role is critical in ensuring sustainable and child-centered reintegration solutions and strengthening national child protection systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and refine strategies and operational guidelines for child reintegration and transition from alternative care.
• Provide technical support and capacity building to UNICEF staff and implementing partners on child protection, reintegration, and transition methodologies.
• Conduct assessments and provide recommendations for improving existing reintegration and transition programs.
• Contribute to policy advocacy and the development of national frameworks supporting child reintegration and family-based care.
• Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of reintegration and transition interventions, identifying best practices and lessons learned.
• Collaborate with government counterparts, NGOs, and other stakeholders to ensure coordinated and effective child protection interventions.

Requirements

• Advanced university degree in Social Sciences, Law, International Development, or a related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of progressive professional experience in child protection, with a strong focus on reintegration and alternative care.
• Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing child protection programs in complex humanitarian or development settings.
• In-depth knowledge of international child protection standards, including the UN Guidelines for the Alternative Care of Children.
• Proven ability to provide technical assistance, training, and capacity building.
• Excellent analytical, report writing, and communication skills.
• Experience working with UNICEF or other UN agencies is an asset.
