The 2026 Brain Builders Youth Development Initiative Essay Competition is now open to students across Nigeria who are interested in exploring the role of artificial intelligence in society. This national contest offers a platform for young thinkers to share ideas on how AI can be used responsibly to improve lives while ensuring ethical governance.

Organised by the Brain Builders Youth Development Initiative, this competition is part of the AI Literacy for Everyday People in Nigeria project, supported by the Patrick J. McGovern Foundation. It aims to promote awareness, critical thinking, and informed discussions about artificial intelligence within the Nigerian context.

The 2026 Brain Builders Youth Development Initiative Essay Competition invites students to present well researched and original essays that reflect a deep understanding of AI and its impact on society.

Essay Topic

“Artificial Intelligence for Public Good: Balancing Innovation, Human Welfare, and Responsible Governance.”

Participants are expected to approach this topic with a clear argument that is relevant to Nigeria, supported by evidence, and grounded in real world applications.

Eligibility Criteria for 2026 Brain Builders Youth Development Initiative Essay Competition

To qualify for this competition, applicants must meet the following requirements:

• Must be a student in a recognised Nigerian tertiary institution
• Open to universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, monotechnics, and schools of nursing
• Must be between 18 and 30 years old

Essay Submission Guidelines

Applicants are required to follow these guidelines carefully:

• Essay must be between 1,200 and 1,500 words
• Language must be English
• Font style should be Times New Roman, size 12
• Line spacing should be double spaced

Use of AI Tools

Participants may use AI tools to support research and idea development. However:

• The final essay must reflect your original thinking and analysis
• Submissions that appear fully generated by AI without meaningful personal input will be disqualified

Prizes and Rewards

Winners of the 2026 Brain Builders Youth Development Initiative Essay Competition will receive the following cash prizes:

• First Prize: N400,000
• Second Prize: N300,000
• Third Prize: N200,000

In addition:

• The top 10 finalists will each receive N100,000
• Finalists will be invited to attend the Grand Finale Event with full sponsorship
