As the team expands its AI-driven capabilities, they’re looking for an experienced Data Engineer to build the data foundation those solutions depend on.

Job Overview

This is a full-time role for someone with a strong background in building and optimising data pipelines, specifically in environments where AI and machine learning are at the centre of the product. You’ll work closely with software and AI engineers to ensure data flows reliably, processes efficiently, and integrates securely across AppLab’s growing Azure-based infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines and ETL processes to support AI-driven projects across the team.
• Build and optimise data infrastructure to ensure efficient data management, processing, and storage within Microsoft Azure cloud environments.
• Collaborate with AI engineers to facilitate data preparation for machine learning models and AI solutions.
• Ensure data pipelines are secure, reliable, and consistently meet performance standards.
• Monitor and troubleshoot pipeline performance to guarantee timely and accurate data delivery across systems.
• Implement data governance policies and ensure compliance with data security standards throughout the data lifecycle.

Required Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Data Engineer with a clear focus on building and maintaining complex data pipelines for AI or machine learning projects.
• Proficiency in SQL and hands-on experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL and SQL Server, as well as NoSQL databases like MongoDB.
• Expertise in cloud-based data solutions on Microsoft Azure, including Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, and Azure Databricks.
• Experience with data integration tools and ETL frameworks, including Apache Airflow.
• Proficiency in Python or another programming language suited to data manipulation and pipeline development.
• Solid knowledge of data warehousing solutions and best practices.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to work across technical and cross-functional teams.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• Strong written and spoken English proficiency.

Desirable Qualifications

• Familiarity with machine learning models and data preprocessing workflows for AI solutions.
• Knowledge of containerisation tools such as Docker and Kubernetes for data pipeline deployments.
