The British Council is seeking a dynamic and experienced Arts Programme Manager for its Nigeria office. As the UK’s international organisation for cultural relations, we foster trust and understanding through collaborative arts initiatives. This role is crucial in developing and delivering impactful arts programmes that connect Nigeria with the UK, promoting mutual learning and cultural exchange.

Job Overview

The Arts Programme Manager will lead the strategy, development, and implementation of the British Council’s arts portfolio in Nigeria. This includes identifying emerging trends, building strategic partnerships, and managing a diverse range of projects across various artistic disciplines to achieve organisational objectives and enhance cultural relations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive arts strategy aligned with British Council global priorities and Nigeria’s cultural landscape.
  • Manage the full project lifecycle for arts programmes, from conception and funding to delivery and evaluation.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with artists, cultural institutions, government bodies, and other stakeholders in Nigeria and the UK.
  • Oversee budgets, resource allocation, and ensure compliance with financial and operational policies.
  • Lead and mentor a team of arts professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment.
  • Monitor and evaluate programme impact, disseminating learning and best practices.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in arts management, programme development, and delivery, preferably within an international context.
  • Strong understanding of the contemporary arts sector in Nigeria and internationally.
  • Excellent project management, strategic thinking, and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and nurture diverse stakeholder relationships.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • A relevant degree in arts management, cultural studies, or a related field.
