UNICEF Nigeria is seeking a highly experienced Senior Consultant to lead a programmatic review of our gender equality initiatives. In alignment with the Millennium Development Goals and UNICEF’s commitment to protecting children’s rights and expanding their opportunities, this role will be instrumental in assessing the impact and effectiveness of our gender equality programs across Nigeria. This review will inform future strategies aimed at accelerating the realization of rights for all children and women, focusing on survival, development, protection, and participation, and contributing to significant reductions in infant, child, and maternal mortality, as well as expanding access to essential services.

Job Overview

The Senior Consultant will be responsible for the comprehensive evaluation of UNICEF Nigeria’s gender equality programs, identifying strengths, weaknesses, and areas for strategic enhancement. This critical review will provide evidence-based recommendations to strengthen programmatic approaches and maximize impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement a rigorous methodology for the programmatic review.
  • Conduct in-depth analysis of existing gender equality strategies, interventions, and outcomes.
  • Engage with key stakeholders, including government partners, civil society organizations, and UNICEF staff.
  • Document findings, best practices, and lessons learned.
  • Develop actionable recommendations for improving program design, implementation, and sustainability.
  • Produce a comprehensive review report and present findings to UNICEF leadership.
  • Requirements

  • Advanced degree in Gender Studies, Development Studies, Social Sciences, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in gender equality programming and programmatic reviews, preferably within a humanitarian or development context.
  • Proven expertise in qualitative and quantitative research methodologies.
  • Strong analytical, report-writing, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience working with UN agencies or similar international organizations.
  • Familiarity with the Nigerian context and its gender equality landscape.
