Job Overview
Kraken is seeking a highly experienced and motivated Staff Security Architect to join our distributed team. In this remote role, you will be instrumental in designing, implementing, and overseeing comprehensive security strategies that protect our cutting-edge cryptocurrency exchange and related services. You will collaborate with engineering, product, and operations teams to embed security best practices throughout the software development lifecycle and operational infrastructure.Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain Kraken's security architecture, standards, and roadmaps across all technology domains.
- Lead the design and implementation of security controls for critical systems, including cloud infrastructure, applications, and data.
- Conduct security risk assessments, threat modeling, and architectural reviews to identify and mitigate vulnerabilities.
- Provide expert guidance and mentorship to engineering teams on secure coding practices, cryptography, and security design patterns.
- Evaluate and recommend new security technologies and solutions to enhance Kraken's security posture.
- Develop and document security policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Respond to and investigate security incidents, contributing to post-incident analysis and remediation.
- Champion a security-first culture across the organization.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 10+ years of experience in information security, with a significant focus on security architecture and design.
- Deep understanding of cloud security principles (AWS, GCP, Azure) and container security.
- Proficiency in cryptography, network security, application security, and data security.
- Experience with security frameworks and compliance standards (e.g., NIST, ISO 27001).
- Strong knowledge of threat modeling methodologies and risk management.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience in the financial services or cryptocurrency industry is highly preferred.
