Job Overview
The News Editor will be responsible for overseeing the editorial direction and production of news content for BBC Media Action’s projects in Nigeria. This role requires a strong understanding of the Nigerian media landscape, excellent journalistic instincts, and the ability to guide a team to produce high-quality, audience-focused content.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the editorial strategy and output for news projects, ensuring alignment with BBC Media Action’s mission and research findings.
- Manage and mentor a team of journalists and content creators, providing clear direction and constructive feedback.
- Oversee the commissioning, editing, and fact-checking of news content across various platforms.
- Ensure all content is accurate, impartial, and adheres to the highest journalistic standards.
- Collaborate with research teams to integrate audience insights into editorial decision-making.
- Monitor audience engagement and adapt content strategies accordingly.
Requirements
- Proven experience in news editing, preferably within a broadcast or digital news environment.
- Demonstrated understanding of the Nigerian media landscape and cultural context.
- Exceptional editorial judgment and a strong commitment to journalistic ethics.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and team management skills.
- Proficiency in content management systems and digital production tools.
- A degree in Journalism, Media Studies, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
