A creative media organization in Abuja is currently recruiting a Cartoonist to join its production team. This is a full-time onsite role for experienced illustrators who can create engaging visual stories through cartoons, character design, and sequential art.

The position is ideal for talented artists with strong storytelling ability and a solid portfolio demonstrating different cartooning styles.

Job Details

• Experience Required: Minimum of 4 years
• Qualification: NCE or OND
• Salary Range: ₦200,000 – ₦300,000 per month

Job Summary

The Cartoonist will be responsible for creating compelling visual content such as editorial cartoons, illustrations, web comics, and character artwork. The ideal candidate must have strong drawing fundamentals and the ability to communicate stories, humor, or social commentary through artwork.

You will work with creative and production teams to produce engaging illustrations suitable for digital platforms, publications, and social media.

Key Responsibilities

Cartoon Creation and Visual Storytelling

• Create engaging cartoons, illustrations, and visual storytelling content
• Communicate emotion, humor, and narrative through sequential art or single illustrations
• Develop unique characters and creative visual concepts

Creative Collaboration

• Interpret creative briefs from editors, producers, or creative teams
• Collaborate with designers and content teams to produce visually engaging projects
• Adapt artistic styles to match different project needs or brand identities

Digital Illustration and Design

• Produce artwork using professional digital illustration tools
• Prepare artwork for both digital publishing and print production

Content Development

• Create visual content for websites and social media platforms
• Contribute ideas for creative storytelling and cartoon concepts

Required Skills and Experience

Portfolio

• A strong portfolio showcasing cartooning styles, character design, and storytelling ability

Drawing Skills

• Excellent drawing skills with strong understanding of:
  • Anatomy
  • Perspective
  • Composition
  • Lighting

Storytelling Ability

• Ability to communicate stories and emotions through illustrations

Software Skills

Proficiency with digital illustration tools such as:

• Adobe Photoshop
• Adobe Illustrator

Experience using drawing tablets such as:

• Wacom tablets
• iPad Pro with Procreate

Additional Advantage

Candidates with the following experience will have an advantage:

• Animation software experience
• Editorial or political cartooning background
• Creating webcomics or social media content
• Knowledge of print production and digital file preparation
• Traditional art techniques such as inking or watercolor
