This pivotal role will be instrumental in optimizing our import operations and ensuring a seamless supply chain.
Job Overview
The Import Manager will oversee all aspects of the import process, from vendor sourcing and negotiation to customs clearance and inbound logistics. This role requires a strategic thinker with a strong understanding of international trade regulations and a proven ability to manage complex supply chains efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement import strategies to ensure timely and cost-effective procurement of industrial chemicals and raw materials.
- Identify, vet, and manage relationships with international suppliers and manufacturers.
- Negotiate favorable terms, pricing, and contracts with overseas vendors.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant Nigerian customs regulations, import/export laws, and international trade agreements.
- Manage all import documentation, including bills of lading, commercial invoices, packing lists, and certificates of origin.
- Coordinate with freight forwarders, shipping lines, and customs brokers to facilitate smooth transit and clearance of goods.
- Monitor inventory levels and forecast future import needs to prevent stockouts or excess inventory.
- Analyze import costs and identify opportunities for cost reduction and efficiency improvements.
- Liaise with internal departments, including procurement, logistics, and finance, to ensure seamless import operations.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, International Relations, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in import management, preferably within the chemical or raw materials industry.
- In-depth knowledge of international trade procedures, customs regulations, and incoterms.
- Proven experience in supplier negotiation and contract management.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational abilities.
- Proficiency in relevant import/export software and Microsoft Office Suite.
