Street Child is seeking a dedicated Senior Compliance Officer to join our Nigeria team. Established in 2008, Street Child is a UK charity committed to creating educational opportunities for vulnerable children worldwide. Since our inception in Sierra Leone, we have expanded our reach, positively impacting tens of thousands of lives across Sierra Leone, Liberia, and Nepal. Our commitment to empowering children extends to Nigeria, where we launched a vital project in 2017 to provide education for children affected by conflict in the North East. This role is crucial in ensuring our operations in Nigeria adhere to the highest standards of integrity and regulatory compliance.
Job Overview
The Senior Compliance Officer will be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing Street Child’s compliance framework within Nigeria. This role is essential for mitigating risks, ensuring adherence to legal and donor requirements, and upholding Street Child’s values and mission.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and implement comprehensive compliance policies and procedures tailored to the Nigerian context.
Monitor and assess compliance with all relevant national laws, regulations, and donor requirements.
Conduct internal audits and risk assessments to identify potential areas of non-compliance.
Provide training and guidance to staff on compliance matters and ethical conduct.
Manage reporting mechanisms for compliance issues and ensure timely resolution.
Liaise with external stakeholders, including legal counsel and regulatory bodies.
Support the development and implementation of robust due diligence processes.
Maintain accurate compliance records and documentation.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Law, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field.
Proven experience in a compliance or risk management role, preferably within the NGO or development sector.
In-depth knowledge of Nigerian legal and regulatory landscape relevant to charitable organisations.
Strong understanding of grant compliance requirements for major international donors.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities.
High level of integrity and ethical conduct.
Proficiency in relevant software and compliance management tools.
