UNICEF Nigeria is seeking a dedicated and experienced Social & Behavior Change (SBC) Specialist to contribute to achieving the Millennium Development Goals and accelerating the realization of children’s and women’s rights. This role is crucial in developing, implementing, and evaluating innovative SBC strategies that drive positive societal shifts to improve child survival, development, protection, and participation.

Job Overview

The Social & Behavior Change Specialist will be instrumental in leading and coordinating the design and implementation of evidence-based SBC interventions across various programmatic areas, including health, nutrition, child protection, and education. This position requires a deep understanding of behavior science, community engagement, and strategic communication to address critical challenges faced by children and women in Nigeria.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and implementation of comprehensive SBC strategies and action plans.
  • Conduct formative research and analysis to inform SBC programming.
  • Design, pilot, and scale up innovative SBC interventions.
  • Provide technical guidance and capacity building to government counterparts and partners.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and report on the effectiveness of SBC activities.
  • Advocate for the integration of SBC approaches in national policies and programs.
  • Foster collaboration and partnerships with various stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in Social and Behavioral Sciences, Public Health, Communication, or a related field.
  • A minimum of five years of professional experience in social and behavior change communication, with a focus on child-related issues.
  • Proven experience in designing and implementing evidence-based SBC strategies in complex humanitarian or development contexts.
  • Strong analytical, research, and evaluation skills.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Fluency in English. Knowledge of local Nigerian languages is an asset.
