Job Overview
The Phlebotomist/Lab Technician will be responsible for the safe and efficient collection of biological specimens and performing basic laboratory tests to aid in patient diagnosis and treatment. This position requires meticulous attention to detail, strong interpersonal skills, and a commitment to upholding the highest standards of laboratory practice within a busy hospital environment.Key Responsibilities
- Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection accurately and efficiently from patients of all ages.
- Label specimens correctly and ensure proper transport to the laboratory.
- Prepare and process various biological specimens for analysis.
- Perform routine laboratory tests, including but not limited to, urinalysis and basic hematology.
- Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure adequate stock of supplies.
- Adhere strictly to laboratory safety protocols and infection control procedures.
- Document test results accurately in the laboratory information system.
- Communicate effectively with patients, nurses, and physicians regarding specimen collection and test status.
Requirements
- Minimum of an Ordinary National Diploma (OND) or equivalent in Medical Laboratory Technology, Phlebotomy, or a related field.
- Professional certification in Phlebotomy is an advantage.
- Proven experience as a Phlebotomist/Lab Technician in a clinical setting.
- Proficiency in phlebotomy techniques and specimen handling.
- Knowledge of basic laboratory procedures and safety standards.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
