Axxela, a Helios Investment Partners LLP portfolio company and a leading private sector developer of natural gas distribution in Nigeria, is seeking a diligent and proactive Legal and Governance Lead (Assistant Manager). Axxela plays a pivotal role in the West African energy landscape, notably as a designated natural gas shipper on the West African Gas Pipeline (WAGP) and by delivering essential energy solutions to over 160 industrial and commercial customers through an expansive network of gas infrastructure.

Job Overview

The Legal and Governance Lead (Assistant Manager) will be instrumental in ensuring Axxela’s operations and strategic initiatives are underpinned by robust legal frameworks and strong corporate governance principles. This role demands a keen understanding of regulatory environments within the energy sector in Nigeria.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive legal advice on a wide range of corporate and commercial matters.
• Oversee and manage the company’s corporate governance compliance.
• Draft, review, and negotiate various contracts and agreements.
• Liaise with external legal counsel and regulatory bodies.
• Support the development and implementation of legal and compliance policies.
• Assist in managing litigation and dispute resolution processes.
• Ensure adherence to all relevant national and international laws and regulations.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from a recognized institution.
• Minimum of 5 years of post-call experience in corporate law, preferably within the energy sector.
• Admitted to practice law in Nigeria.
• Strong understanding of corporate governance best practices.
• Excellent drafting, negotiation, and analytical skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
