Job Overview

Samsara is seeking a visionary and experienced Director of Product Design to lead our talented design team and shape the future of our Connected Operations Cloud. This critical role will be instrumental in translating complex operational challenges into intuitive, user-centered digital experiences. You will champion design thinking, foster innovation, and ensure that our platform not only meets but exceeds the evolving needs of our diverse customer base. As a key leader, you will collaborate closely with product management, engineering, and research to define and execute a compelling design strategy that drives user adoption and business value.

Key Responsibilities

* Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing product design team, fostering a culture of creativity, collaboration, and user advocacy.
* Define and own the end-to-end design vision and strategy for Samsara’s Connected Operations Cloud, ensuring a cohesive and impactful user experience across all products.
* Drive the creation of innovative and intuitive user interfaces, user flows, and interaction models for web and mobile applications.
* Partner with Product Management and Engineering to translate business requirements and user needs into compelling design solutions.
* Conduct user research, usability testing, and competitive analysis to deeply understand customer pain points and identify opportunities for design innovation.
* Establish and evolve design systems, patterns, and guidelines to ensure consistency, scalability, and efficiency in design execution.
* Champion design thinking principles and best practices across the organization, advocating for the user in every decision.
* Present design concepts, rationale, and outcomes to cross-functional teams and executive leadership, effectively communicating the value of design.

Requirements

* Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Design, HCI, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
* 7+ years of experience in product design, with a significant portion in leadership roles, managing and mentoring design teams.
* A strong portfolio showcasing exceptional UX/UI design skills, with a proven track record of delivering successful and impactful digital products.
* Deep understanding of user-centered design principles, design thinking methodologies, and agile development processes.
* Proficiency in industry-standard design and prototyping tools (e.g., Figma, Sketch, Adobe Creative Suite).
* Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate design decisions and collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
* Experience designing for complex, data-intensive enterprise software applications, preferably within the IoT or SaaS space.
