Job Overview

As a Data Scientist, Risk at Flutterwave, you will play a critical role in developing and implementing advanced data-driven strategies to mitigate financial risks. You will leverage your expertise in statistical modeling, machine learning, and data analysis to identify, assess, and predict potential risks, ensuring the security and integrity of our payment ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and deploy machine learning models for fraud detection, credit risk assessment, and other critical risk areas.
• Analyze large datasets to identify patterns, trends, and anomalies indicative of potential risks.
• Collaborate with engineering, product, and operations teams to integrate risk models into production systems.
• Design and conduct A/B tests and experiments to evaluate the effectiveness of risk mitigation strategies.
• Monitor model performance, identify areas for improvement, and iterate on existing models.
• Communicate complex analytical findings and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Stay abreast of emerging trends and technologies in data science and risk management.

Requirements

• Master’s or PhD in a quantitative field such as Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related discipline.
• Proven experience as a Data Scientist with a focus on risk management or fraud detection.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R, and relevant libraries (e.g., scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch).
• Strong understanding of statistical modeling, machine learning algorithms, and experimental design.
• Experience with SQL and working with large, complex datasets.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
