The ACSM Advisor Abuja Consultant Job in Abuja offers a short term opportunity for experienced public health professionals who are passionate about improving immunization coverage in Nigeria. This position is part of the Routine Immunization Project implemented by the JSI Research & Training Institute, a global public health organization committed to strengthening health systems and improving community health outcomes.

The consultant will work onsite in Abuja and support advocacy, communication, and social mobilization activities that encourage vaccination uptake among children under five. The role focuses on reaching underserved communities and reducing the number of zero dose and under immunized children through targeted community engagement strategies.

The contract duration for this role is five months from April to August 2026.

About the Routine Immunization Project

The Routine Immunization Project implemented by JSI Research & Training Institute focuses on strengthening routine vaccination systems across several Nigerian states. The project aims to improve immunization coverage by addressing barriers that prevent children from receiving life saving vaccines.

Through technical assistance and collaboration with government agencies, community leaders, and health partners, the project seeks to

  • Improve routine immunization coverage in supported states
  • Identify and reach zero dose children who have not received any vaccines
  • Address vaccine hesitancy and demand barriers
  • Promote equitable access to immunization services in underserved communities

Advocacy, Communication, and Social Mobilization activities are central to achieving these goals by raising awareness about vaccination campaigns and strengthening trust within communities.

Job Summary

The ACSM Advisor Abuja Consultant Job in Abuja will report directly to the Project Director and provide technical leadership for advocacy, communication, and social mobilization initiatives within the project.

The consultant will work closely with national and state level teams to guide the implementation of ACSM strategies that promote the use of routine immunization services. The role also involves supporting community based interventions that encourage parents and caregivers in hard to reach areas to vaccinate their children.

Key Responsibilities

The selected consultant will perform several important duties including the following

ACSM Strategy and Program Implementation

  • Lead the planning, coordination, and implementation of advocacy, communication, and social mobilization activities across the project’s focus states
  • Support efforts aimed at increasing community awareness of routine immunization outreach services
  • Promote the adoption and utilization of vaccination services among underserved populations

Stakeholder Engagement and Partnerships

  • Support State ACSM Consultants in identifying key stakeholders at Local Government Area and community levels
  • Build strong relationships with community associations, traditional leaders, and other influential stakeholders
  • Participate in state level technical working groups and forums that focus on improving immunization coverage
  • Represent JSI Research & Training Institute in relevant meetings and stakeholder engagements

Reporting and Knowledge Sharing

  • Prepare and submit reports on ACSM activities and field engagement
  • Document lessons learned, success stories, and feedback from community members
  • Contribute to learning and adaptive management processes within the Routine Immunization Project

Additional Responsibilities

  • Carry out other tasks assigned by the Project Director or supervisor to support project objectives

Qualifications and Experience

Educational Requirements

  • A degree in Public Health, Behavioural Science, Psychology, Communications, or a related field
  • A Master’s degree such as MBA, MSc, or MA is strongly preferred

Professional Experience

  • Minimum of five years experience designing and implementing ACSM programs related to routine immunization or other public health initiatives
  • Demonstrated ability to develop program strategies with clear objectives, indicators, and measurable outcomes
  • Experience working across multiple states or large scale public health programs

Additional Skills

  • Strong communication and facilitation skills in English
  • Proven ability to write compelling human interest stories for different audiences
  • Experience working with traditional and digital media to engage public audiences
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to build and maintain professional networks
  • Knowledge of languages spoken in the project’s focus states will be an added advantage
