The British Council, the United Kingdom’s international organisation for cultural relations, is seeking a dedicated Payroll Consultant to manage and oversee payroll operations across the Middle East and Africa (MEA) region, with a primary focus on Nigeria. This role is instrumental in ensuring the accurate and timely processing of payroll for our diverse workforce, upholding compliance with all relevant regulations and contributing to the financial integrity of our operations in this vital region.

Job Overview

The Payroll Consultant MEA will be responsible for the end-to-end payroll process within the designated region, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency. This role requires a deep understanding of payroll legislation and best practices, particularly within the Nigerian context, and will involve close collaboration with HR and finance departments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process accurate and timely payroll for all employees in Nigeria and the wider MEA region.
  • Ensure compliance with all local payroll legislation, tax regulations, and statutory requirements.
  • Manage payroll data, including new hires, terminations, salary changes, and benefit adjustments.
  • Liaise with external payroll providers and government bodies as required.
  • Prepare payroll reports for management and finance departments.
  • Respond to employee payroll queries and resolve discrepancies.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of payroll best practices and legislative changes.
  • Requirements

  • Proven experience in payroll management, with specific expertise in Nigerian payroll.
  • Thorough understanding of Nigerian labor laws, tax regulations, and social security contributions.
  • Proficiency in payroll software and HRIS systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
