Job Overview

The Senior Project Officer will oversee the planning, coordination, implementation, and monitoring of peacebuilding and governance projects. The role involves working closely with partners, local communities, and stakeholders to ensure effective project delivery, compliance with donor requirements, and alignment with organizational goals.

Key Responsibilities of the Senior Project Officer Job in Sokoto

Project Implementation and Coordination

  • Lead the implementation of project activities according to project plans and partner agreements
  • Prepare, review, and compile project reports, case studies, and lessons learned
  • Support communication, outreach, and field activities with project partners
  • Develop and update joint work plans with implementing partners
  • Monitor project progress and ensure timely achievement of milestones

Monitoring and Evaluation

  • Design and implement monitoring tools and processes to track project outcomes
  • Collect, collate, and analyze project data to inform decision making
  • Provide technical support to partners on M&E procedures
  • Participate in evaluation exercises and draft analytical reports
  • Recommend corrective measures to address project implementation challenges

Partnership and Stakeholder Management

  • Support partners in engaging with government and community stakeholders
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with donors, local partners, and other stakeholders
  • Ensure partners comply with organizational policies, donor requirements, and relevant laws
  • Contribute to capacity building of partners on project monitoring and evaluation

Administrative and Organizational Support

  • Maintain organized project filing systems including M&E data and reports
  • Monitor project expenditures and collaborate with finance teams for budget adjustments
  • Ensure effective use of project resources according to work plans
  • Contribute to wider organizational goals and promote teamwork

Travel Requirements

  • Frequent travel to project locations, including remote and hard-to-reach areas

Requirements

To qualify for the Senior Project Officer Job in Sokoto, candidates must meet the following criteria.

Educational Qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree in Development Studies, Peace and Conflict Transformation, Project Management, or related social science field

Experience

  • Minimum of 4 years of project management experience in an NGO setting
  • Proven experience implementing peacebuilding programs in Northern Nigeria
  • Experience in stakeholder engagement and partner coordination

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong analytical, report writing, and documentation skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work with minimal supervision
  • Deep understanding of the social, political, and economic context in Nigeria
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
  • Highly computer literate, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills
