The International AIDS Society (IAS) invites applications for the AIDS 2026 Prevention Ambassador Fellowship. This prestigious fellowship is designed for individuals dedicated to advancing HIV prevention knowledge and access while amplifying their reach through digital content creation and community engagement.
The fellowship offers an exciting opportunity to participate in the 26th International AIDS Conference (AIDS 2026) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 26 to 31 July 2026, connecting fellows with leading scientists, public health experts, activists, and communities affected by HIV.
Fellowship Overview
The AIDS 2026 Prevention Ambassador Fellowship aims to support professionals and content creators who are passionate about HIV prevention. Fellows will gain hands-on experience creating digital content, expanding their networks, and engaging with cutting-edge prevention science and policy.
Key Fellowship Benefits
- Implement a digital HIV prevention project ahead of AIDS 2026, contributing to the IAS Rethink. Rebuild. Rise. campaign (up to USD 500 in project costs).
- Create and share digital content during AIDS 2026 to translate HIV prevention science, policy, and activism for target audiences (up to USD 500 in project costs).
- Attend AIDS 2026 in person, with travel, accommodation, per diem, ground transport, and visa support where applicable.
- Connect with researchers, policymakers, and community leaders working in HIV prevention.
- Participate in networking and professional development activities at the conference.
Fellowship Duration
The fellowship begins after a competitive selection process, with notifications in March 2026, and concludes on 14 August 2026.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:
- Demonstrate a proven track record in HIV prevention (PrEP/PEP, U=U, harm reduction, combination prevention, or policy).
- Have experience creating digital content on HIV prevention with a minimum of 5,000 total followers/subscribers, or alternative documented reach through community engagement.
- Adhere to ethical reporting standards, using evidence-based, non-stigmatizing, and rights-focused language.
- Be proficient in English (multilingual candidates encouraged).
- Commit to participating in pre-event virtual onboarding and full conference dates.
- Be aged 18 or older at the time of application.
Priority Considerations
Applications from candidates who:
- Work with or represent key and priority populations, including people living with HIV, MSM, trans people, sex workers, people who inject drugs, adolescent girls and young women, migrants, and other underserved groups.
- Are based in low- and middle-income countries or create content for underserved audiences.
- Have experience collaborating with community-led organizations, clinics, or advocacy coalitions.
Application Requirements
Applicants must complete the official application form and provide:
- Demographic information and work history.
- Motivation statement.
- Brief descriptions of two digital prevention projects: one pre-AIDS 2026 and one during the conference, including objectives, target audience, platforms, themes, and sample posts.
- CV with portfolio or links to recent HIV prevention digital content (last 6–12 months) and proof of reach.
- Letter of support from your organization if employed, or a reference letter if self-employed.
