The U.S. Consulate General in Lagos, Nigeria represents the U.S. government in southern Nigeria, engaging with government, business, and academic communities. The Consulate offers professional development, international exposure, and a competitive compensation package, including health benefits.

The Consulate is seeking a Political/Economic Assistant to support the Political-Economic Section. This is a full-time position based in Lagos, Nigeria.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor, analyze, and report on political, economic, environmental, and social developments across southern Nigeria (17 states within the Lagos consular district).
  • Assist in reporting on environmental and social issues relevant to U.S. interests.
  • Draft detailed reports, memoranda, and letters for internal and external use with minimal editing.
  • Contribute to research and analysis that supports the Consulate’s diplomatic and operational objectives.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law, Economics, Business, Trade, Finance, International Relations, or related fields.

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in research, analysis, or report drafting.
  • Familiarity with U.S. Embassy operations, the structure of the Nigerian government, and relevant actors and protocols.

Skills & Abilities

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to synthesize complex political, economic, and social information.
  • Excellent writing and drafting skills for producing high-quality letters, memoranda, and reports.
  • Strong attention to detail, reliability, and ability to work independently.

Compensation

  • Salary: USD $48,225 per year
