 Who Should Apply (Eligibility Criteria)

Applicants should:

• Be eligible to start a full-time PhD at University of Galway in September 2026.
• Hold a first degree or relevant prior degree with high academic standing (e.g. first class or upper-second class honours or equivalent).
• Not already be registered as a PhD student nor previously hold a PhD.
• Meet the English language and other entry requirements of University of Galway.

The Hardiman Scholarships welcome applicants from all disciplines across the university’s four academic colleges — including Arts & Humanities, Sciences, Social Sciences, Engineering, Medicine, and more.

 Application Process & Requirements

• Find a PhD Supervisor
• Applicants must nominate a supervisor at University of Galway.
• The supervisor must submit a Supervisor Form by the application deadline.
• Submit Your Scholarship Application
• Applications must be completed and submitted by 6 February 2026, 17:00 (Irish Time).
• Applications may be submitted in English or Irish.
• Provide Academic References
• Two academic reference forms must be completed and submitted by the same deadline.
