Job Overview

Action Against Hunger is seeking a Health Promoter to support community-based health promotion activities in Borno State. The role focuses on community sensitization, mobilization, referral support, and health education to improve access to quality health services at both community and facility levels.

Key Responsibilities

Community Health Promotion & Mobilization

  • Conduct regular community sensitization, awareness, and health education sessions on key topics such as SRH, MHPSS, nutrition, and WASH
  • Mobilize community members to access health facilities, outreach programs, and referral services
  • Facilitate group discussions, focus group discussions (FGDs), and household visits to address health misconceptions
  • Identify vulnerable individuals requiring targeted health support and referrals
  • Refer community members to the nearest health facilities and follow up on referrals

Facility & Outreach Support

  • Support health facility staff in organizing outreach activities, screening campaigns, and follow-up visits
  • Participate in supportive supervision visits to promote quality service delivery
  • Assist in monitoring and follow-up of clients reached through community mobilization

Documentation, Reporting & Data Collection

  • Document all community health activities accurately
  • Collect facility and community-level data, including attendance sheets, referral forms, and activity logs
  • Submit daily and weekly field reports highlighting activities, challenges, and emerging community needs

Safeguarding, Accountability & Community Engagement

  • Raise awareness on Complaint and Feedback Mechanisms (CFM) and available reporting channels
  • Promote PSEA (Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) messaging and confidential reporting options
  • Collaborate with community leaders, women and youth groups, facility staff, and local partners
  • Represent the organization positively during all community engagements
  • Uphold safeguarding standards, confidentiality, and beneficiary dignity at all times
  • Immediately report any safeguarding or SEA concerns through approved organizational channels

Additional Duties

  • Participate in team meetings, trainings, and supervision sessions
  • Maintain high professional and technical standards
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • National Diploma in Public Health, Community Health, Nursing, Nutrition, or a related field
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in community health promotion, hygiene promotion, or humanitarian programming
  • Experience supporting health and nutrition activities at community and facility levels
  • Basic knowledge of MIYCN, ANC, family planning, immunization, and hygiene promotion
  • Experience in data collection, documentation, reporting, and success story development
  • Familiarity with working in insecure or humanitarian contexts
