An established pharmaceutical organization is recruiting a highly experienced Head of Pharmacy to provide strategic leadership and operational oversight across multiple pharmacy branches. This Head of Pharmacy role is based at the Abuja head office and involves regular visits to branches to ensure consistent professional standards, regulatory compliance, and strong commercial performance across the network.

Role Overview

The Head of Pharmacy is responsible for coordinating pharmacy operations across all company locations while empowering Superintendent Pharmacists to manage day to day branch activities effectively. This position combines professional leadership, regulatory governance, retail performance management, and people development to ensure service excellence and sustainable growth.

Key Responsibilities of the Head of Pharmacy

Multi Branch Oversight and Governance

  • Provide professional leadership to Superintendent Pharmacists across all branches
  • Ensure uniform implementation of pharmacy policies, SOPs, and operational standards
  • Serve as the highest professional authority on pharmacy related matters
  • Conduct routine branch audits, reviews, and performance assessments

Regulatory Compliance and Professional Standards

  • Ensure full compliance with PCN, NDLEA, and other relevant regulatory bodies
  • Oversee licensing, renewals, inspections, and regulatory correspondence
  • Identify compliance gaps and enforce corrective actions
  • Maintain ethical dispensing practices and patient safety standards

Retail Performance and Commercial Strategy

  • Develop and execute growth strategies for pharmacy operations
  • Monitor sales performance, margins, and key pharmacy performance indicators
  • Support branches to increase OTC sales, prescription volume, and customer retention
  • Drive promotions, product mix optimization, and seasonal retail initiatives

Inventory Management and Risk Control

  • Oversee procurement planning, stock control, and expiry management
  • Ensure strong controls to reduce losses, pilferage, and wastage
  • Review stock reports and address abnormal variances
  • Align inventory planning with community demand at each location

People Management and Capability Development

  • Set performance expectations and KPIs for Superintendent Pharmacists
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, and staff development with HR
  • Identify training needs and coordinate continuous professional development
  • Handle escalated disciplinary, ethical, and performance related issues

Customer Experience and Clinical Excellence

  • Ensure consistent standards of patient counseling and professional care
  • Resolve escalated customer complaints and professional concerns
  • Promote community health initiatives and extended pharmacy services

Reporting and Strategic Contribution

  • Prepare consolidated pharmacy performance reports for management
  • Provide insights to improve efficiency, profitability, and compliance
  • Participate in strategic planning, expansion projects, and new branch setups

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy such as BPharm or PharmD
  • Valid and current PCN license
  • Minimum of 7 to 10 years experience in community or retail pharmacy
  • Previous experience supervising multiple branches or pharmacy teams
  • Proven ability to work effectively with Superintendent Pharmacists
