Program Description

The Fulbright TEA Program provides multiple learning pathways for K–12 educators from participating countries and territories. During the program, participants will:

  • Attend academic seminars at a U.S. host university covering modern teaching methodologies, student-centered learning, instructional technology, and subject-based instruction
  • Complete a minimum of 40 hours of field experience in a U.S. secondary school, working closely with a partner teacher in a similar discipline
  • Participate in cultural and community activities to better understand U.S. society and educational systems
  • Choose between the general program or specialized cohorts focused on gender studies, media literacy, or environmental education

Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility requirements may vary slightly by country, but applicants are generally expected to:

  • Be a full-time secondary school teacher serving a primarily local population
  • Hold at least a bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • Have five or more years of teaching experience in English, English as a Foreign Language (EFL), mathematics, science, social studies, or special education within these subjects
  • Demonstrate proficiency in spoken and written English (e.g., TOEFL paper-based score of 450 or equivalent)
  • Show a strong commitment to returning to teaching after completing the program
  • Submit a complete and accurate application

Secondary-level educators include middle and high school teachers instructing students approximately 12–18 years old. Teachers handling multiple grade levels must teach middle or high school students for more than 50% of their workload to qualify.
