Applications are now open for the Africa Translation Fellowship 2026, a prestigious opportunity for translators working on texts from Africa and its diaspora. This fellowship, hosted by The Africa Institute, Global Studies University (Sharjah, UAE), provides grants of up to $5,000 to support high-quality translations into English or Arabic, with consideration also given to other languages.

The fellowship is non-residential, allowing recipients to complete their projects from anywhere in the world. Its goal is to make important works in African and African Diaspora studies accessible to a global readership while supporting emerging and established translators in their craft.

Fellowship Details

    • Highest degree attained
    • Key publications or works produced
  2. Project Summary (2 pages, single-spaced, font 12)
    • Description of the translation to be undertaken
    • Significance of the work
    • Justification for re-translation (if applicable)
    • Proposed timeline for completion
  3. Sample Translation (4–5 pages, double-spaced, font 12)
    • Include original text alongside translated sample
  4. Copyright Information
    • If not public domain, provide copyright notice
    • Include confirmation from copyright holder that English-language rights are available
