The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), through its Energy Industry Support Programme (EISP), is inviting applications from SMMEs (Small, Medium, and Micro Enterprises) in the energy sector. The programme is designed to empower innovators, bridge skills gaps, and support enterprise growth in South Africa’s emerging energy industry.
This initiative aligns with CSIR’s mandate to improve quality of life through multidisciplinary research, technological innovation, and industrial development.

Programme Tracks
1. Capacity Building
- 1-week intensive training for SMMEs that want to participate or are already participating in the energy sector
- Focus areas include:
- Value chain analysis of renewable energy technologies
- Enterprise development opportunities
- Project finance and business case development
- Policy and regulatory considerations for renewable technologies
- Priority consideration: female and disabled entrepreneurs
2. Technical Incubation Service
- Support for SMMEs already active in the energy sector and looking to improve technical expertise in renewable energy
- Selection based on pre-determined criteria to identify enterprises capable of scaling in the energy industry
- CSIR provides technical incubation support to help enterprises grow sustainably
