Applications are now open for the 2026/2027 Nedbank Youth Employment Service (YES) Programme, a business-led initiative in partnership with government to reduce youth unemployment in South Africa. The programme provides young South Africans with an opportunity to gain meaningful workplace experience, develop new skills, and improve their prospects for long-term employment.

About the Nedbank YES Programme

The YES Programme is designed to give young South Africans aged 18–29 the chance to gain quality work experience through a 12-month placement. Unlike internships, learnerships, or apprenticeships, this programme focuses on practical, hands-on experience that prepares participants for the job market.

By participating in the YES Programme, youth can enhance their skills, gain exposure to professional environments, and increase their employability.

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for the 2026/2027 Nedbank YES Programme, applicants must:

  • Be South African youth between 18 and 29 years old as of 1 May 2026 (born between 2 May 1997 and 1 May 2008)
  • Have at least a Matric (Grade 12) qualification, or a post-matric qualification at one of the following levels:
    • NQF Level 5 – Higher Certificate
    • NQF Level 6 – Diploma
    • NQF Level 7 – Advanced Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree
  • Be currently unemployed
  • Be South African-born African, Coloured, or Indian citizens, in line with the BBBEE Act definition of “black people”
  • Not have previously participated in a YES Programme with another organisation

Programme Details

  • Duration: 12 months
  • Start Date: 1 May 2026
  • Nature of Programme: Practical work experience (not a learnership, internship, or apprenticeship)
  • Stipend: YES youth will receive a monthly monetary support to assist with living, food, and travel-related expenses
