Job Description
Applications are now open for the British Council Film Lab Africa Accelerator Programme 2025, a flagship creative initiative designed to support emerging Nigerian filmmakers, screenwriters, and television producers.
Launched in 2023, Film Lab Africa is committed to strengthening Africa’s creative economy by equipping the next generation of storytellers with the skills, mentorship, and industry access needed to build sustainable careers in film and television—while amplifying African stories on global platforms.
Why Film Lab Africa?
Nigeria’s film and television industry continues to shape global narratives, yet many emerging creatives struggle with limited access to funding, mentorship, and international networks.
Film Lab Africa bridges these gaps through a structured accelerator model that supports creatives from idea development to screen production. Participants gain exposure to local and international industry experts, collaborate across borders, and position their work for audiences in Nigeria, the UK, and beyond.
This programme offers a clear pathway to visibility, collaboration, and long-term career growth for rising creatives in film and television.
What the Programme Offers
Selected participants will benefit from:
- Capacity-building in screenwriting, producing, directing, and digital storytelling
- Script-to-screen development for short films and episodic content
- Writers’ residencies and mentorship with Nigerian and international industry professionals
- Opportunities for industry engagement, collaboration, and cultural exchange
- Local and international showcasing of selected works
- Exposure to critical conversations around inclusion, policy, and climate storytelling
Eligibility Criteria
The programme is open to emerging Nigerian creatives who:
- Are screenwriters, filmmakers, or television producers
- Have demonstrated interest or experience in film, TV, or digital content creation
- Are committed to developing original African stories for local and global audiences
- Can fully participate in all training, mentorship, and development activities
