UNICEF Nigeria seeks a dedicated Health Specialist to contribute to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals by advocating for children’s rights and improving their health and well-being. Our country programme is committed to accelerating the realization of rights for all children and women, focusing on survival, development, protection, and participation. This role is instrumental in promoting initiatives to reduce infant, child, and maternal mortality, and expand access to essential health services across Nigeria.

Job Overview

The Health Specialist will play a pivotal role in designing, implementing, and monitoring health-related programmes in Nigeria. This position requires a proactive and results-oriented individual passionate about child and maternal health, with a strong understanding of public health challenges and interventions in developing country contexts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement evidence-based health strategies and interventions.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to national and sub-national health authorities.
  • Monitor programme progress, assess impact, and ensure timely reporting.
  • Foster partnerships with government, NGOs, and other stakeholders.
  • Contribute to resource mobilization and proposal development.
  • Promote advocacy for child and maternal health policies and practices.
  • Requirements

  • Advanced university degree in Public Health, Medicine, or a related field.
  • Minimum of five years of professional experience in public health, with a focus on child and maternal health.
  • Proven experience in programme management and implementation in developing countries.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in English; knowledge of local Nigerian languages is an asset.
