Job Overview
The Resident Coordinator is a crucial position that leads the United Nations’ efforts in supporting national development priorities and implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the country level. In this role, you will be responsible for coordinating the activities of various UN agencies, fostering partnerships with key stakeholders, and promoting the UN’s values and principles. As a senior representative of the UN, you will provide strategic guidance and oversight to ensure that the UN’s programs and initiatives are aligned with national priorities and make a meaningful impact on the lives of people. You will also play a key role in advancing the UN’s reform agenda, which aims to enhance the organization’s effectiveness, efficiency, and accountability.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide strategic leadership and direction to the UN Country Team, ensuring that the UN’s programs and activities are aligned with national priorities and the SDGs
* Foster partnerships with key stakeholders, including government officials, civil society organizations, and private sector entities, to promote the UN’s values and principles
* Coordinate the development and implementation of the UN’s development programs and initiatives, ensuring that they are effective, efficient, and responsive to national needs
* Promote the UN’s reform agenda, including efforts to enhance the organization’s effectiveness, efficiency, and accountability
* Provide guidance and oversight to UN agencies, ensuring that their programs and activities are aligned with national priorities and the SDGs
* Facilitate the sharing of knowledge and best practices among UN agencies and with national stakeholders, to enhance the impact and effectiveness of UN programs
* Represent the UN in national and international fora, promoting the organization’s values and principles and advancing its development agenda
Requirements
* Advanced university degree (Master’s or Doctorate) in a relevant field, such as international relations, development studies, or a related field
* A minimum of 15 years of professional experience in international development, diplomacy, or a related field, with a proven track record of leadership and management
* Excellent knowledge of the UN’s development agenda, including the SDGs and the UN’s reform efforts
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think strategically and make informed decisions
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective partnerships with diverse stakeholders
* Fluency in English, with knowledge of other UN languages an asset
* Experience working in a multilateral or international organization, with knowledge of the UN’s rules and procedures
