Applications are now open for the 2026 Code for Africa (CfA) Mythbusters Fellowship, a part-time program designed to empower community influencers in Côte d’Ivoire and Senegal to counter disinformation and strengthen information resilience in their communities. This initiative is part of a partnership between Code for Africa (CfA) and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, focusing on promoting information integrity and combating misleading content.

The fellowship provides an opportunity for social media influencers and content creators to amplify evidence-based reporting, engage local audiences, and develop innovative strategies to prevent the spread of disinformation.

During the fellowship, participants will:

  • Collaborate with CfA’s forensic investigation team, iLAB, and PesaCheck to disseminate accurate, evidence-based information.
  • Create engaging content in graphic, audio, or video formats, primarily in local languages.
  • Use social media and digital platforms to lead discussions on the impact of disinformation in their communities.
  • Participate in online training, mentoring, and virtual workshops.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Be a social media influencer with an engaged audience. Priority will be given to nano- and micro-influencers trusted by their communities.
  • Maintain a non-partisan stance, with no affiliations to government agencies, political parties, state-affiliated media, or paramilitary organizations.
  • Commit to publishing content on public platforms and actively share investigative work during the fellowship.
  • Be fluent in French, with Wolof preferred for Senegal-based applicants, along with local ethnic languages dominant in their region.
  • Have reliable access to a laptop or desktop computer with stable internet connectivity.
  • Commit to sharing acquired knowledge with followers, peers, and the wider journalism or research community.
  • Be available for at least two one-hour virtual meetings per week.
