Job Description
Applications are now open for the 2026 International Press Institute (IPI) Global AI Accelerator, an eight-month funding and support programme designed for small-to-medium independent news outlets in Global Majority countries. The accelerator helps news organizations experiment with artificial intelligence and new technologies while strengthening their long-term sustainability, editorial independence, and operational resilience.
Selected media organizations will receive funding, expert-led training, tailored advisory services, and access to a global network of media innovators. The programme also supports organizations in co-creating a roadmap for AI adoption that balances innovation, security, and credibility in journalism.

Eligibility Criteria
To participate in the IPI Global AI Accelerator 2026, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Be an independent news organization based in a Global Majority country (Africa, Asia, Latin America, or the Middle East)
- Operate a newsroom with 3–50 staff members
- Have a verifiable online presence and have been fully operational for at least three years
- Already experimenting with, exploring, or developing guardrails around AI technologies
- Present a clearly defined challenge or pain point with evidence, including user research, demonstrating how the organization plans to respond
- Be able to implement the grant-funded project within an eight-month timeframe
What the Accelerator Offers
The IPI Global AI Accelerator is designed to equip newsrooms with the tools, knowledge, and resources needed to experiment responsibly with AI and other emerging technologies. Key programme components include:
