Job Description
The Field Technical Engineer (Graduate Trainee) will deploy, install, maintain, and repair fiber optic infrastructure at customer and network sites. This role requires hands-on technical expertise to support fiber rollouts, customer activations, and fault resolution, ensuring high-quality and reliable service. The ideal candidate is proactive, detail-oriented, and committed to delivering seamless connectivity.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute field installations of fiber optic cables for FTTH, FTTB, and backbone networks
- Perform fiber splicing, termination, and testing using OTDR, power meters, and splicing machines
- Conduct site surveys for new deployments and prepare detailed technical reports
- Install, configure, and test customer-premises equipment (CPE) such as ONUs and routers
- Troubleshoot and resolve connectivity issues for residential and enterprise customers
- Ensure clean, secure, and compliant routing/termination of fiber cables
- Collaborate with NOC and support teams to provide timely field updates and resolve escalations
- Follow all health, safety, and quality standards during installations and repairs
- Maintain accurate documentation and reporting of all field activities, fiber routes, and site visits
- Provide basic training and guidance to customers on the use and care of installed equipment
Qualifications and Requirements
- B.Eng Degree or HND qualification in a relevant technical field
- Strong technical aptitude and willingness to learn on the job
- Detail-oriented, proactive, and committed to high-quality service delivery
