Young people are often underestimated as leaders and experts in their own lived experiences. To address this gap, Chatham House has built a diverse global community of young people, creating opportunities for them to engage in international dialogue and connect directly with policymakers so their voices are heard where it matters most.

Common Futures Conversations (CFC) is an initiative of the QEII Academy for Leadership and the Next Generation, designed to foster a vibrant global network of young leaders and integrate youth-driven ideas into major international policy discussions.

Originally developed with 27 young people from 13 countries through a youth-led survey conducted in January 2019, CFC has since grown into a global platform engaging over 2,000 young people from more than 120 countries. Participants regularly interact with senior representatives from national governments and regional institutions, including the African Union and the European Union.

What Joining the CFC Community Involves

CFC members take part in structured, online monthly “challenges” focused on specific global policy themes. These challenges allow participants to:

  • Engage directly with Chatham House experts
  • Explore evidence-based research and policy insights
  • Develop and share informed perspectives on global issues

To gain the full benefit of the programme, participants are encouraged to commit 1–2 hours per week, which includes:

  • Participating in discussions on the CFC online platform
  • Attending monthly CFC virtual events
  • Accessing Chatham House events, research outputs, and publications

Members may also be invited to participate in additional Chatham House events and opportunities beyond the core programme.

Programme Duration

Successful applicants will join the CFC community for a one-year term.

Participants who demonstrate consistent and meaningful engagement may be invited to extend their participation for an additional year, provided they remain 30 years old or under.

Who Should Apply

You are encouraged to apply if you:

  • Are aged 18–30 years
  • Have a good working knowledge of English
  • Are passionate, engaged, and active in your local community

CFC strongly values diversity and inclusivity and does not discriminate based on any protected characteristics. Applicants are not required to hold specific academic qualifications or have prior experience or a career in policy.

If you are motivated to make a positive impact in your community and beyond, you are welcome to apply.
