The FME Diaspora Bridge Program 2026 offers Nigerian students a powerful opportunity to access global expertise, mentorship, and innovation without leaving Nigeria. Through structured partnerships, the programme brings highly skilled Nigerian professionals in the diaspora directly into Nigerian tertiary institutions to support learning, research, and capacity building.

This initiative strengthens Nigeria’s higher education ecosystem by connecting local campuses with international knowledge networks, especially in high-impact STEM-M disciplines.

About the FME Diaspora Bridge Program (BRIDGE)

The Diaspora Bridge Program, officially known as BRIDGE (Bridging Research, Innovation, Development & Global Engagement), is a flagship initiative of the Federal Ministry of Education (FME) in collaboration with the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund).

BRIDGE is designed to close skills and knowledge gaps in Nigeria’s higher education system by linking Nigerian academics, institutions, and students with Nigerian professionals living and working abroad. The programme focuses strongly on Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Medicine (STEM-M).

For students, this means access to global mentorship, collaborative research opportunities, guest lectures, innovation hubs, workshops, and exposure to international academic and industry standards—all while studying locally.

Key Benefits for Nigerian Students and Institutions

Participation in the FME Diaspora Bridge Program delivers long-term academic and career advantages:

  • Access to global expertise through guest lectures, workshops, and visiting scholars
  • Mentorship and professional networking with Nigerian experts abroad
  • Funded collaborative research projects that involve students
  • Stronger STEM-M training and improved employability outcomes
  • Opportunities for innovation, internships, and industry collaboration
  • Contribution to national capacity building and academic advancement

The programme is especially valuable for students seeking research exposure, postgraduate mentorship, or international academic collaboration within Nigeria.

Who Can Participate

The programme operates through multiple participation tracks:

Diaspora Professionals Track

Open to Nigerian professionals living abroad with expertise in STEM-M fields who wish to collaborate with Nigerian institutions.

Nigerian Professionals Track

For lecturers, researchers, and professionals working in Nigerian tertiary institutions who can involve students in teaching, mentoring, or research projects.

Nigerian Institutions Track

Eligible institutions include:

  • Universities
  • Polytechnics
  • Colleges of Education
  • Research Institutions
  • Teaching Hospitals

Student Participation

Students are not the primary applicants but benefit directly through their institutions’ involvement. Postgraduate students or advanced learners with teaching or research responsibilities may qualify under the Nigerian Professionals track.

Most students participate as beneficiaries through research projects, mentorship programmes, workshops, and innovation activities hosted by their institutions. There are no age or gender restrictions, making the programme inclusive.

Students are encouraged to speak with department heads, research supervisors, or faculty members about supporting institutional participation.

Initial registration requires basic information, including:

  • Personal details (name, nationality, contact information)
  • Academic or professional background
  • Areas of expertise or research interests (STEM-M related)

Institutions may also provide needs assessments and expected outcomes. Additional documents like CVs or academic credentials may be requested after registration.
