How the Dev Degree Program Works
The Dev Degree journey is structured around two integrated components: learning and building.
Year One: Developer Skills Training
In the first year, participants complete Shopify’s Developer Skills Training Path, where they will learn:
- Core programming tools and technologies
- Software development methodologies
- Engineering best practices used on production teams
At the same time, students begin their Computer Science degree at one of Shopify’s partner universities.
Transition to Shopify Engineering Teams
Placement into a Shopify Engineering team depends on the university partner:
- York University students join an engineering team after approximately 4 months
- Carleton University students join after approximately 8 months
Once placed, Dev Degree interns begin contributing to real Shopify products while continuing their academic studies.
