Qualcomm has opened applications for its Make in Africa Startup Mentorship Program, a flagship initiative designed to support early-stage African startups building hardware and deep-tech solutions.

Demo Day: December 2026
Funding Type: Non-equity (Free)

The program focuses on founders leveraging advanced technologies such as:

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI)
  • 5G
  • Internet of Things (IoT)
  • Advanced connectivity and embedded systems

This non-equity mentorship program helps startups scale at a critical growth stage—without giving up ownership.

What the Program Offers

Selected startups will receive a comprehensive support package, including:

1. One-on-One Expert Mentorship

  • Direct mentorship from Qualcomm engineers and business experts
  • Tailored technical guidance for product development
  • Strategic business and commercialization support

2. Expert-Led Masterclasses

  • Training sessions on product design, scaling, and market readiness
  • Deep-tech commercialization and startup growth strategies

3. Financial Support

  • USD 5,000 stipend for participating startups
  • One selected founder will receive a Social Impact Fund grant through Qualcomm Wireless Reach

4. Intellectual Property (IP) Support

A core strength of the program is its focus on protecting innovation:

  • Patent filing support and IP advisory
  • Reimbursement of up to USD 5,000 for one utility patent
  • Consultations with leading IP law firm Adams & Adams

This support helps founders secure their innovations and build long-term enterprise value.

Who Can Apply?

The program is open to early-stage startups that meet the following criteria:

  • Legally registered and operating in Africa
  • Building hardware or deep-tech products
  • Leveraging technologies such as AI, IoT, 5G, or advanced connectivity
  • Have a functional prototype or early product
  • Demonstrate strong innovation potential and scalability
